Parents in School District 16 are reminded that a public consultation on the review of the entry point of early French immersion will be held at St. Andrews Elementary School at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14th. Parents play a significant role in the development of their children and are encouraged to participate in this public session. This is the slogan that was put into practice on Monday October 24th by many schools in District 16 to mark School Library Day which is being observed across Canada. The D.E.A.R. project is being held to highlight the importance of literacy and the role that school libraries have in its development. In this “electronic age ” libraries play an increasingly important role in helping students determine how and where to find quality reading material and accurate well balanced information.

District 15 and 16 are hosting seven Dutch teachers visiting from October 22 to 28. The teachers, from Arnhem and Groenlo have, been collaborating closely with District 16 teachers for the past six years. With the help of  a grant from the European Education Commission they are visiting  to learn more about how our districts are using Social Media in education. Four of the Dutch teachers will visit schools in District 16 Monday and Tuesday, while their three colleagues visit District 15.  The Dutch teachers will be special guests at a District 16 DEC meeting at Eleanor W.

Croft Elementary Home & School, along with the Croft Drama Club, will present their second annual "Spooktacular" on October 28th and 29th in their Forest Classroom. The Atlantic Association of Registrars and Admissions Officers from post-secondary institutions recently held a series of Career Expos for District 16 students which included an evening session at Miramichi Valley High School on Wednesday October 12th .  The after-supper session allowed  parents and guardians to accompany their children to visit 46 booths in order to consider the many post-secondary education options available in Atlantic Canada.

 A new initiative in the area of Adventure Based education brings together 12 grade 8 students from across the district to be members of the District 16 Lemur Team. One individual from each of the district schools with students in grade 8 has been selected for the program.

Recently District 16 recognized 3 teachers who have completed the district's two year Leadership Development Program. The certificates were presented at a ceremony at the Rodd Miramichi River Inn, presided over by District 16 Director of Education Mr. Andrew Clark on Wednesday September 28th. This year’s recipients were Ms Rose Corney, Ms Heidi Ryder and Ms Theresa MacKnight.
