North and South Esk Elementary student Avery Hiemstra has just been awarded first place in the 'Junior Essay' category of The Royal Canadian Legion’s National Literary Contest.  Avery was recognized for her writing proficiency and her ability to clearly evoke a strong sense of Remembrance in her work in a congratulatory letter from Dominion President Thomas Irvine, sent on behalf of the Royal Canadian Legion.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is this Sunday, June 21st.

It is a day for Indigenous Peoples to celebrate and showcase who they are, and a day of prayer to give thanks. 

It is important to recognize the many contributions of the First People of this land, and to celebrate their culture and identity.

Elder Donna Augustine from Elsipogtog First Nation has been a long-time valued contributer to the education and growth of ASD-N students and staff. In the attached link, Elder Donna shares a special message with ASD-N students about National Indigenous Peoples Day.

This is a big week for the graduates of ASD-N's eight high schools.  Although celebrations won't look like they have in the past, each school has found unique ways to honour this group of graduating students. 

ASD-N is very proud of their accomplishments and their resiliency, and hopes that 2020 graduates apply their many school experiences to help build bright and successful futures.
