Approximately 200 girls and 50 volunteers which included School Champions, activity leaders and other partners  participated in the Go Girl Festival on Tuesday, May 11 at the Golden Hawk Recreation Center in Miramichi.  A group of  Grade 6-10 girls from most schools in District 16 and our 4 First Nation Communities  attended and participated in various events throughout the day. Girls were invited to see and try a variety of sessions lead by community volunteers. Sessions included Fencing, Geocaching, Baseball, Zumba, Yoga, Archery, Power Fitness , Skateboarding, Mountain biking, Synchronized Swimming  and Bowling . The goal of the day was to encourage girls to pursue sport/physical activities and an active  lifestyle.  Based on verbal feedback from the girls everyone had a great day and enjoyed the opportunity offered to them.  Girls were treated to nutritious snacks and lunch  and had the opportunity to learn about healthy eating at the Mango booth. Dr. Paula Keating gave an inspirational talk about her recent experience at the Boston Marathon and encouraged the girls to pursue a healthy active lifestyle.  The Go Girl Festival was made possible by a partnership with School District 16, Mango & Healthy Learners in School Program of Horizon Health, City of Miramichi Wellness & Recreation Department , NBCC Miramichi, Department of Wellness Culture and Sport and other community donors.  For photos visit Go Girl Festival.
