The "Great Canadian Sing-along"

Posted: May 5, 2010

On Monday May 3rd St. Andrew's Elementary School joined music lovers from across Canada and participated in "Music Monday". Schools throughout the country united by singing an identical piece of music at the same time, entitled SING, SING,SING by Serena Ryder. Following this opening number music teacher Emily Comeau coordinated a program of variety for the public in the school's gym with such numbers as a class "playing the spoons" , another playing Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" on small xylophones and everyone joining in on the action filled "Unicorn Song". Music Monday is an annual event that brings together thousands of students, musicians, parents and community members across Canada to celebrate the gift of music in our lives, on the same day at the same time. The most important goal with Music Monday, the first Monday in May, is to celebrate the importance of music in Canada and demonstrate how that importance is rooted in the school music programs.
