Students from District 16 participated in the annual Grande Digue Road Race on Sunday April 29th.  Five runners in the elementary school category represented St. Andrew’s and Blackville schools and a middle school team represented Dr. Losier school. Race results: 1st place, Alex Jardine of Blackville School;  2nd place Gareth McLean of St. Andrew's School in the Grades 5-6 1,500 metres; 1st place Jenny Cripps of St. Andrews Elementary School in the grades 3-4  1,000 metres; 3rd place, Alex Stockli of Dr. Losier Middle School Boy’s Division; 4th place, Emily Larkin of Dr.

Miramichi Valley High School student braved a cool late April morning to visit some of the historical residences of Chatham-Miramichi. Mary King’s Grade 11 English classes, following the Chatham Historic Places Walking Tour, viewed several of the historic homes and learned of their significance. The walking tour was developed last year by students at Dr. Losier Middle School as an enrichment project and is available as a free Iphone app. The students had earlier visited St. Paul’s Anglican Church which was constructed by William Murray and the adjacent historical grave sites of Dr. J.

The Miramichi Kinsmen and School District 16 are pleased to accept film entries for the second annual Kin Film Festival.  All School District 16 students are invited to participate.  Films can be submitted in one of two categories: Open and The Kinsmen Category.  The top 10 films in each category will be screened on May 12th, 2012 at Miramichi Empire Studio 5.  Cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 will be awarded for the winners in each category.

The Artist Kave will be displaying and honouring artwork by the talented students of School District 16 from April 14th to April 21st.  Mrs. Charlotte Loggie, District 16 Art Coordinator, was extremely excited and welcomed the opportunity to showcase some of the budding artists of School District 16. The showcase of student artwork will mark the opening of The Artist Kave for the season.  The Artist Kave, located at 1734 Water St. Miramichi, is a gallery that focuses on displaying and promoting the works of the Miramichi’s many talented local artists.

It would be an understatement to say that Wednesday, April 11, 2012, was just a normal school day for the staff and students at Nelson Rural. Many would be treated to a day they would not soon forget with a special visit from NFL Superstar and New England Patriots Tight End Rob Gronkowski.

Keeping a “log” of what happens day to day, recording those things that could be of interest to others, has been done for centuries. When done on the “Web” it’s known as a “Blog”.  And “Blogging” is fast becoming  a means for students and teachers to record for others, many things of interest, that are happening in the classroom with special projects and in the school. “On location” was the operational term at Miramichi Rural School (MRS) on Monday April 2. A film crew from the National Film Board of Canada temporarily took over the school’s library to begin a two year film project that will among other things feature the MRS’s Star Troopers. "Star Troopers" is the name of the school’s astronomy club that regularly studies the night skies and is well equipped with three sizeable but portable telescopes and one larger domed telescope.
