Students Aware of Haitian Recovery

A number of District 16 students and teachers have special thoughts for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti on this anniversary of the tragedy. For example, students and teachers at Harkins Middle School have been very active in providing support for a small library for Carlos and his classmates at an orphanage in Port-au-Prince. Students in the World Issues Class at Bonar Law Memorial School are actively working through the aid organization ONEXONE to provide support to and raise awareness of, the ongoing needs of the Haitian recovery program. Initiatives of this kind are considered important in teaching for the 21st Century which includes encouraging students to become aware of their responsibilities as global citizens.
