On Friday, February 14th the Grade 6 students at Nelson Rural School hosted our annual Flag Day ceremony in front of students, teachers, parents and a panel of local politicians. On hand for the ceremony was MP- Pat Finnigan, MLA- Lisa Harris, MLA- Michelle Conroy, Leader of the NB Liberal Party- Kevin Vickers and our Mayor- Adam Lordon. Students sang “O Canada” and recited the “Pledge to the Flag” in both official languages. Flags were waving as students presented readings, gave musical performances, and presented a little comedy act for the audience. They capped off the morning by having the special guests compete in a friendly game of, “Canadian Jeopardy”, hosted by principal, Mr. Todd Fitzpatrick. All the were good sports but it was MLA Lisa Harris who edged out Mayor Adam Lordon to become the Canadian Jeopardy champion! It was a fun morning but also a great educational experience for the Nelson Rural students.
