September 30th was a historic day at Nelson Rural, as the school raised the Mi'kmaq Grand Council Flag.  The flag will now fly permanently, joining Sugarloaf Senior High School and Rexton Elementary School in ASD-N.

Vice Principal Amy Maloney organized the raising of the Mi'kmaq Grand Council Flag as an act of reconciliation for Orange Shirt Day, with some classes witnessing the special occasion firsthand while the rest watched in their classrooms via live streaming.

The ceremony was officiated by Elder George Paul from Metepenagiag First Nation, with school, district and community representatives in attendance.
