From Tide Head to Rexton, well over 1500 Grade 3-5 students from across ASD-N participated in a series of three district wide track and field events.
The first meet took place at the UCT Oval in Campbellton on Monday, June 11th and included athletes from Janeville, Terry Fox, Parkwood, Jacquet River, L.E. Reinsborough, Lord Beaverbrook, Tide Head and Campbellton Middle. Students represented their homeroom classes in events such as the Long Jump, High Jump, Hurdles and 100 metre dash, while also taking part in a wide variety of field activities and challenges throughout an action packed day. Trophies were awarded to the top 3 class winners for each grade level and the results are as follows:

2nd - CMS 5 FI
3rd - CMS 5 E
Grade 4

2nd - LER 4
3rd - LBS 4A
Grade 3

It was a very successful day in Campbellton and credit goes out to LBS Phys Ed teacher Denis Boudreau & JRS Principal Trevor Glazier, who were instrumental in making this event possible. Also thanks to the many volunteers who helped run each of the stations.
Next it was onto the JMH Track in Miramichi for the next two events, which were held on Tuesday, June 19 & Wednesday, June 20. The first day featured participating schools from Gretna Green, King Street, Max Aitken, Miramichi Rural, Napan and Nelson. Day two saw students take part from Blackville, NSEE, Harcourt, Millerton, Rexton, Esgenoopetitj, Metepenagiag, and Tabusintac.
Over 1000 students demonstrated their athletic ability under sunny skies in 5 Track events including: 100m, 200m, 800m, 4 x 100m relay and 60 m hurdles, as well as 5 Field events including: Javelin, Discus, Softball Throw, Long Jump and High Jump. Numerous awards were given out throughout the day for the top 3 finishers in each event. Also for the first time, the Track meet featured a couple of open challenges for all students to participate in with those being the ASD-N Ninja Warrior Challenge and the Balance Master Challenge. These two additions proved to be extremely popular with students judging by the number of individuals who took part.
Once again, thanks to all volunteers who made these events such a great success! We look forward to seeing everyone back again next year in June 2019.
