NSER Mawi'omi April 26

Posted: April 30, 2018

Students from NSEE, NSER, Metepenagiag School, Natoaganeg School as well as students in grades K-5 from Blackville School had the opportunity to participate in a Mawi’omi or cultural gathering, more commonly referred to as a Powwow, in the NSER gymnasium on Thursday, April 26. The day began with a grand entry which included many dignitaries, including Superintendent, Mark Donovan, MLA Lisa Harris, Chief Bill Ward and Director of Education Dinah Webb from Metepenagiag First Nation.

Students and teachers had the opportunity to hear traditional drumming by various drum groups as well as see a variety of traditional dancers including grass, men’s traditional, women’s traditional, shawl and jungle dress dancers.

ASD-N would like to thank all those who supported, especially Metepenagiag First Nation, as well as those who attended the event. These events are so important as we work toward reconciliation and addressing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action.
