Anglophone North welcomes Colombian girls

Posted: October 5, 2015

A special international Thanksgiving dinner was held at the Rodd Miramichi River Hotel for 16 Colombian girls, their chaperones, host families and school principals on Monday, through the generosity of one local doctor.       Dr. Sanjay Siddhartha, originally from India, sponsored the event and was praised by Anglophone School District North officials and Tourism Minister Bill Fraser for extending his hand of kindness to the international guests.     Fourteen of the girls are middle school students, age 11-12, who were greeted at the Moncton airport on Sept. 19 by their host families, holding balloons and signs, and giving hugs.     Royal treatment RCMP Cst. Chuck Plaxton greeted young Colombian girls from Marymount School in Medellin to Miramichi on Monday at the Rodd Miramichi River Hotel, including Lucia Mejia Jaramillo, shown here with him. An international orientation, pre-Thanksgiving dinner was hosted by Anglophone School District-North and co-sponsored by Dr. Sanjay Siddhartha for the students, their chaperones and host families – 85 people in total.
