ASD-N Schools Remember

Posted: November 12, 2014

Remembrance Day was observed recently in schools across ASD-N with the holding of ceremonies at student assemblies. Choirs sang commemorative songs, students made speeches and recited poetry. Colour parties made up of cadets, guides and scouts paraded into gymnasiums leading the guests of hounour, armed forces veterans, many from the school’s own community.   In addition to these ceremonies schools found other ways to show their concern and interest for those who have served and are serving to protect Canada. Students at Lord Beaverbrook School (LBS) in Campbellton had some extra special visitors recently. Military veterans went to the school and helped grade 1 students make poppies for their upcoming Remembrance Day ceremony. They enjoyed their time together so much that they have decided to visit students at LBS monthly.Students at Janeville School in Bathurst are planning their annual trip to the Robert L. Knowles Veterans’ Unit , part of Villa Chaleur, to visit veterans who are resident there. Dr. Losier Middle School students in Miramichi have prepared 61 Christmas Boxes to be sent to serving members of the armed forces who can’t be home this Christmas. At Eleanor W. Graham Middle School in Rexton veterans were invited into the classroom to talk to students about their experiences and the importance of Remembrance Day.
