The teaching of Mrs. Carolyn Simmons of Gretna Green Elementary School was recognized at this year’s Minister’s Excellence in Teaching Awards celebration in Fredericton this past weekend. In describing the award the NB Minister of Education Mr. Jody Carr stated "These awards recognize and honour dynamic educators who have displayed outstanding skills in supporting the needs of diverse learners at the school, district and / or provincial level. It is a small way that we can thank our educators for their exceptional commitment and dedication to our children's learning." Mrs.
The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB) along with representatives of the Rotary Club of Chatham and the Historic Chatham Business District, presented Anglophone North School District Superintendent Nancy Boucher a cheque for $1700.00 on November 22nd . The donation was raised at the annual APEGNB Pumpkin Fling held September 22nd and 23rd on Waterford Green, Chatham-Miramichi, and is given to support school breakfast programs in the district.
North and South Esk Regional High School is hosting a Spaghetti Supper and Silent Auction at the Beaverbrook Kin Center, Miramichi West, on Wednesday November 28th. The guest speaker at the dinner will be Bruce Beaton a former professional football player and author of “Little Athletes Big Leaders’. The title of his talk is Effective Sport Parenting. Well known children’s author Sheree Fitch is returning to Miramichi as part of the celebration for the 25th anniversary of the publication of her first book, Toes in My Nose, on Tuesday November 27th . Three one hour visits with grade 2,3 and 4 pupils are planned for Gretna Green Elementary (9:00 a.m.), St. Andrews Elementary (10:30 a.m.) and Blackville School(1:00 p.m.). Other area schools are arranging visits to these schools to share the excitement on the 27th.
National Bullying Awareness Week is being observed this week and supporters are asked to wear blue on Friday November 16th. The theme for the week is “STAND UP”. Visit Bullying Awareness Week . This morning a web site was launched in Campbellton as part of a campaign to counter bullying. The site has been created by Intimidation Restigouche, a consortium of community agencies, service clubs and educators. Visit Intimidation Restigouche . A website dedicated to reducing bullying is being launched on Thursday November 15th - http://IntimidationRestigouche.com . A campaign by schools, community agencies and service clubs in the Dalhousie and Campbellton areas will use the site to feature bullying awareness videos created by students as well as other content and generally act as a resource for young people, parents and professionals working with victims of bullying behavior.
Many district school students observed Remembrance Day on Friday Nov. 9th at ceremonies held at their respective schools. Their participation was not limited to attending the hour long programs. Several weeks of effort went into choir rehearsals, preparation of audio-visual presentations and the making of decorations, providing ample time to reflect. Former members of Canada's armed forces, including WW II and Korean War veterans, attended and were made to feel welcome.

anxiously anticipating Christmas with the hope of a rush of people passing
through their doors. Local food banks throughout the Anglophone North School
District are also getting ready for a busy time. It turns out that many school
children are aware of the needs of others in their community and will be
actively involved in collecting non-perishable food items and delivering them

Harkins Middle School recently enjoyed the science enrichment activities provided by Fredericton based Science East™. Two days of classroom demonstrations culminated in an evening community based event titled "ILLUMINATE", Thursday November 9th. The purpose of this showcase was to “shed light” on how science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) are used by professionals in the Miramichi region.
