Becoming Aware of the Fight Against Polio

Posted: October 31, 2014

On October 24th the Campbellton Rotary Club held mock polio clinics at both Lord Beaverbrook School and Tide Head School. Rotary members used purple ink on students’ pinkie fingers as part of a polio awareness campaign. The purple ink represented a topical dye called gentian violet which is used in developing countries by Rotary International to show which children have received polio vaccinations. Painting local students’ fingers purple symbolized the children around the world who are being inoculated against the disease. Rotary international is determined to eradicate polio and presently cases of  polio have been reduced by 99% globally.
