Again this year a number of ASD-N schools began
the school term on September 2nd with programs for new students called
WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) and Boomerang (You get back what you put in) for
Middle School and High School respectively. These programs are designed to make
the students’ transition to secondary school a positive and supported
experience with events organized and lead by teachers and volunteer older
students. Through their participating in a warm and welcoming activity-based orientation
the new students were given an opportunity to get to know each other, their new
school building, to meet some of their older schoolmates, enjoy a barbecue and
to meet their teachers in an easygoing start to the school year. These efforts
to welcome the students were well received and there was a good deal of energy
and excitement exhibited by all participants, students and teachers alike. Relationships
created with older students, perhaps seen as mentors, will be nurtured as the program
continues as the academic year progresses. Visit ORIENTATION for
