BLMS Athletes Visit Toronto

Posted: May 15, 2013

The University of Toronto’s Varsity Centre  was the venue for the Bonar Law Memorial School track and field team’s recent weekend adventure as they participated in the Nike’s™ Canadian Grand Prix Track and Field Invitational Meet. Along with 300 athletes from 21 schools representing 12 provinces and territories, the BLMS athletes competed in the 10 event, one day meet, and brought home several awards. Jonathan Leblanc won the gold medal in the boys’ shot put and Sandy Mundle won the bronze medal in the girls’ shot put. Cross-provincial relay teams were created and Shawn Roberts, Haley Warman and Isaiah Francis were medal winners in this event.      Although the meet itself was a one day event, the trip included a 3 night stay in Toronto, on the university campus, with cultural and social events provided by the meet organizers. The 26 BLMS student-athletes raised more than $17 000 to cover the costs of travel but found that it was a very worthwhile investment. The team is coached by Ms. Julie Hudson and was accompanied on the trip by teachers Ms. Carol Davis, Mr. Nick Fullerton and Mr. Robert Woodburn.
