Anglophone North School District students’ participation in the River Valley Science Fair at the University of New Brunswick on Friday April 12th reflected very well on the level of science education in the district. In the Junior Division (Middle School) eight awards were received of a possible eighteen. A Gold Level Award was earned by Dominic Stockli of Dr. Losier Middle School for his project “Caffeine and Plant Growth” and a Grand Award was won by Taylor Godin of Superior Middle School for her project “Flame On”. The Grand Prize Award for top project at the Senior Level (High School) and of the fair, was presented to Dimalka Ranasinghe of James M Hill Memorial High School for her project “Antimicrobial and Cytotoxicity Activity of Centella Asiatica”. The River Valley Fair is for students from the North, West and East Anglophone School Districts. The Fundy Regional Science Fair is held at UNB-Saint John for Anglophone South School District. A science fair is hosted at the University of Moncton for the francophone schools. All three fairs send winning projects to the Canada-wide fair. The organization of New Brunswick Regional Science Fairs is a joint project of the New Brunswick Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and Science East in cooperation with Youth Science Canada.
