That was the theme of a Grade 6/7 project at Millerton School – and
celebrate they did. It was part of a provincial project, called Our New
Brunswick, initiated by a group called 21inc. The goal was to have
students research and discover their communities and then to share
their knowledge with other students across the province. In the end, six schools participated – and the students in Jane Donaldson-Bowe’s Grade 6/7 class at Millerton represented District 16. Each student researched and wrote about a subject of interest to them in Miramichi. Topics included everything from hunting and fishing to ghost stories and local tourist attractions.Cathy Carnahan, community schools coordinator for Harkins Elementary and Millerton School, coordinated the Celebrate Miramichi project and worked with the students researching, writing and editing. District 16 tech mentor Craig Duplessie also gave the students a lesson in green screen technology and filmed them. Hence, they’re looking forward to using this unique technology again soon.On May 6, the Millerton students shared their knowledge and their project, Celebrate Miramichi, with five other provincial schools via video conference. 21 Inc. member, Andy Clark, participated in the event from the Millerton site. The Millerton School video can be viewed on the District 16 Media Server:http://dt16community.nbed.nb.ca/media/content/video/2553
