The 26th Annual Provincial Leadership Conference – 21st Century Leaders, organized by NBASAA (New Brunswick Association of Student Activity Advisors) was held at the historic Algonquin Hotel in St. Andrews from October 20-22, 2011. District #16 was well represented at the conference, with two Students and a Teacher Advisor attending from each of the five district high schools.
On the final day of the conference Students and Teachers organized a “Flash Mob” Raking event. The Community Outreach Project is very important part of the conference and this year’s event was especially fun as students and teachers raked and rocked to the tunes played on their portable sound equipment. Over 40 bags of leaves were raked in under an hour; a testament to the old adage “Many hands make light work”.
The conference was a networking opportunity for students and teachers. Some items on the agenda were discussion groups organized by school size providing ideas for activities and fundraisers, keynote/motivational speaker Ian Tyson, divided leadership sessions, Much Music Multi Media ‘s new video “Take the Lead” and a MUCH Dance. Student representatives had the opportunity to meet with with Minister of Education, Jody Carr, via Skype.
