District 16 Children Hit the Winter Trails

Posted: January 25, 2009

Several elementary schools of the District 16 have made plans to participate in cross country skiing again this winter. Excursions to visit the Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club in Nelson-Miramichi are being made by many of the nearby schools. Equipment has been made available by partnerships between the ski club and schools with the financial support of the New Brunswick Department of Culture, Heritage and Sport and Sport Canada. Club volunteers assist teachers with instruction and supervision. Blackville School, North and South Esk Elementary and Miramichi Rural School have also been able to obtain access to skis and run similar programs. Cross country skiing is an excellent cardiovascular and calorie burning activity for people at all levels of experience and ability and in the winter it is often difficult to accomplish prolonged participation in the outdoors.
