Enjoying First Nation Hospitality

Posted: September 28, 2012

Metepenagiag First Nation’s Heritage Park on the beautiful Northwest Miramichi River was the location for a Thanksgiving Dinner for 35 international students presently attending schools in Anglophone North School District (ANSD) on September 27th. Students from Germany, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil and China along with their host families enjoyed a traditional turkey dinner prepared by Heritage Park staff. The visiting students enjoyed the atmosphere of the park and had their photos taken with RCMP Corporal Eric Anderson in his red serge uniform along with Patricia Ward and Victoria Augustine in their traditional dress. Victoria welcomed everyone by performing the Mi’kmaq Honour Song as guests sat down to dinner. Following the meal each of the students introduced themselves and were received warmly by those present. Appreciation was expressed to host families by district education personnel and representatives of Atlantic Education International. Guests were invited to tour the Metepenagiag Heritage Park Museum following the dinner. The students attend Harkins Middle School, Miramichi Valley High School, Millerton School, Dr. Losier Middle School and James M. Hill High in ANSD sub-districts 4, 5 and 6 (Miramichi). An additional 40 international students are attending schools in ANSD sub-districts 1, 2 and 3 (Bathurst, Campbellton and Dalhousie). Visit International Student Dinner .
