Getting Closer to Local History

Posted: April 30, 2012

Miramichi Valley High School student braved a cool late April morning to visit some of the historical residences of Chatham-Miramichi. Mary King’s Grade 11 English classes, following the Chatham Historic Places Walking Tour, viewed several of the historic homes and learned of their significance. The walking tour was developed last year by students at Dr. Losier Middle School as an enrichment project and is available as a free Iphone app. The students had earlier visited St. Paul’s Anglican Church which was constructed by William Murray and the adjacent historical grave sites of Dr. J. Vondy and father of Confederation John Mercer Johnson. This tour of the south side of the river was in conjunction with an ongoing project titled the Atlas of The Miramichi, a blog from which can be viewed at Atlas .
