Mr. Dee: The "Carlos" ProjectStudents at Harkins Middle School have begun a campaign to collect school supplies for Carlos and his classmates. Carlos is an 11 year old Haitian who became an orphan as a result of the recent earthquake in his country. Carlos has been very active in trying to restore his school in order for him and other Haitian children to have a chance to get an education and have a brighter future. His project is receiving support from Mary O'Neill, a former Harkins Junior High student and her husband Duncan Dee, a Senior Vice President with Air Canada who met Carlos on a recent humanitarian visit to his badly damaged and impoverished country. In turn, Harkins Middle School students are collecting donations of things like packs of pencils, paper, rulers, solar powered calculators etc. for Carlos. French literacy materials are also being sought and monetary donations are being accepted. If you would like to help please contact Harkins Middle School, 627-4088.
