Looking Back

More than fifty projects were presented by ASD-N Middle School students at the annual ASD-N Heritage Fair held at the Education Centre in Bathurst on Tuesday April 29th. Over recent months a wide variety of topics had been researched and relevant colourful and creative presentations mounted on display boards. Speeches were rehearsed and questions anticipated. During the morning of the fair a dozen judges spent two hours visiting various projects, listening to the young historians about their interest, asking questions and viewing the display boards. They came away duly impressed. During the judging procedures participants attended break-out sessions on Celtic Culture, the NB Archives and First Nation heritage. After lunch the awards presentation took place with judges expressing how difficult it had been to make decisions. The twelve awards categories with winners are listed in the pdf document attached below. Two students were selected as “Provincial Showcase” winners and will attend the Provincial Showcase taking place at the Musée historique du Madawaska in Edmundston (NB) June 20-22. They will also represent New Brunswick at the Maritime Showcase taking place in Charlottetown, PEI, July 8-13, 2014, an event organized to recognize the 150th anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference that led to Confederation. These students are Skylar Watt of Nelson Rural School, Nelson-Miramichi and Madison LeBreton of Superior Middle School, Bathurst. To view photos visit ASD-N Heritage Fair.
