Made to Feel At Home

A dinner was held recently to welcome 35 International Students to NB School District 16 at the Rodd Miramichi River Hotel. Representatives from various agencies and supporting governing bodies were on hand to offer a warm welcome to the secondary school students from Germany, Slovakia, Mexico, Colombia,  Korea and China. These students, visiting for either 5 months or the full school year, live with local host families in Rexton, Blackville and Miramichi and attend the schools in those communities, enjoying cultural immersion in addition to formal education. Ms Tilly O’Neil-Gordon, MP for Miramichi, The Honourable John Foran, Minister for Public Safety and NB Solicitor General and MLA for Miramichi Center, and municipal representatives of the city of Miramichi, the village of Rexton and village of  Blackville were on hand and offered their warm greetings and words of support to the visitors. DEC Chairwoman Patricia Lee expressed words of welcome and encouragement from School District 16. The Miramichi Region Multicultural Association’s Michael Mersereau  invited the students to participate in some upcoming MRMA events  and Thomas Linkletter of the Miramichi Chamber of Commerce gave his organization’s offer of  support and words of welcome.
