On Wednesday February 5th seven Brazilian students had one
of their last opportunities to enjoy the Canadian winter, cross-country skiing
at the Miramichi Cross Country Ski Club. The students who have been attending James M.
Hill High School since September, are returning home Saturday. In spite of the
moderately cold conditions and the “slippery” snow, they made a very impressive
effort to get comfortable skiing the wooded trails, picking themselves up and brushing
themselves off whenever they lost their balance. They responded very well to
the challenge. Their experience on Wednesday is typical of the experiences
being offered to international students attending secondary schools throughout the
Anglophone North School District. They will return home with not only an
improved ability to communicate in English but also with fond memories of life
in Canada.
