Fourteen ASD-N elementary schools participated in the district’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fair on April 8th, held at Gretna Green Elementary School in Miramichi. The participants presented their projects to members of the judging team who provided feedback and asked questions, helping the young researchers defend their work and perhaps consider related avenues for further exploration. Eighty-two projects were displayed involving more than 100 students from schools in Rexton, the Miramichi area and Janeville. In their closing remarks the judges told the students that they were impressed by what they had seen and heard and felt that the projects showed a good understanding of scientific method. Presenters had a busy time as when they weren’t talking to the judges and other interested visitors to their project, they participated in “hands-on”, “break-out” sessions on the topics of aerodynamics, structural engineering and animation.
