On March 9th students from North and South Esk Regional H. S.'s Fine Arts class teamed up with AIDS New Brunswick to create wearable art. AIDS NB has received funding to do workshops that combine art and the understanding and opinions of youth about sexual health education and the communities that we live in. This workshop provided students with an opportunity to speak up and make their voices heard on topics that can be difficult to talk about. Jessi Taylor, the New Brunswick representative, shared with students some of the realities about HIV, AIDS, and STIs and spoke about how art has been instrumental in creating awareness and change in the treatment of, and stigmas attached to, these diseases. Students were then encouraged to design a print that would be transferred onto T-shirts using Inkodye. Designs were intended to communicate their feeling on these difficult topics. These T-shirts are currently on display at the Miramichi Regional Hospital and will be for the next two weeks. For photos visit T-shirts.
