A Race Through the Woods

Posted: June 5, 2012

The First Annual Upper Elementary Mountain Bike Race was considered by all to be a great success. There were 32 riders competing from NSEE, Croft and Gretna Green schools. Race organizers expressed pride in the participants for "toughing out" the weather. It was a very "Canadian" experience. In both the boys and girls finals the race winners fought hard for their spots. Thanks is extended to the volunteers who assisted in expanding the wonderful Gretna Green School’s Story Land Park trail system and for those who assisted with race direction and helped with safety concerns. Thanks is extended as well to the following Miramichi community sponsors: Boston Pizza, Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, Incline Sports, Kent Building Supplies, North Shore Sports, Sobeys and Sport Check for their support, endorsements and contributions. Thanks also to All Decked Out for the plaque and medals on such short notice! The 1st Annual District 16 Upper Elementary Mountain Bike Race was a great celebration of the combination of Adventure Education and Physical Education. Organizers hope that next year it  can be opened up with more schools getting involved in the Mountain Biking Program and the event hosted elsewhere to showcase another school's community enhanced trail system! Results; Boy's Race: #1 William Faulkner (Croft), #2 Bram Johnston (NSEE),  #3 Matthew Coull (croft). Girl's Race: #1 Ashley Schewaga (NSEE), #2 Kaitlyn Munroe (Gretna Green), #3 Julie Martin (Gretna Green). To see photos visit Bike Race .
