The Starfish Award program has recently been initiated in ASD-N. District employees are encouraged to nominate fellow employees who they feel are making an exceptional diffrence, large or small, in the lives of others. The name of the program is based on the following story. An old man walked up a shore littered with thousands of starfish, beached and dying after a storm. A young man was picking them up and flinging them back into the ocean. “Why do you bother?” the old man scoffed. “You’re not saving enough of them to make a difference.”The young man picked up another starfish and sent it spinning back to the water. “Made a difference to that one” he said. Recipients will be presented with a pin and certificate in recognition of their special contribution to others in the school district. Shown receiving the very first ASD-N Starfish Award is former Superintendent Nancy Boucher along with Anne Heckbert, ASD-N Director of Human Resources.
