ASD-N schools in the Bathurst area held the annual ChariTea at Terry Fox Elementary School on Saturday June 1st. This event is part of an ongoing effort in support of the African country of Lesotho. In the fall of 2005, the “Lesotho Initiative” was introduced to the staff of then School District # 15 by the organizing committee which was made up of educators from the district. The “Lesotho Initiative” committee for the A. N. School District continues to promote global citizenship, considered an important component of 21st Century Learning, through the use of a curriculum based on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and through financial support of “Help Lesotho”. The committee continues to raise funds for “Help Lesotho” with school, staff, and community donations; the yearly calendar drive; and events such as the “ChariTea” and the “Salt of the Earth Artisan and Craft Fair” where students and staff are involved in the success of these events. The recent ChariTea brought the grand total of financial support for “Help Lesotho” since 2006 to $79 127.55. For photos visit ChariTea 2013 .
