On November 10, 2011 the Miramichi Highland Society donated $12 409.85 to School District 16 to be used for Assistive Technology in the classroom. Some months ago Dawn MacDonald, an Educational Assistant at Ian Baillie Primary School, realized that a number of students in her school could benefit from Assistive Technology. After several months and several meetings, with the Highland Society and School District 16’s Student Service Team, a plan was developed that would identify students who would benefit from this program from across the district. Over the next few months technology will be made available to these students to assist them in their educational journey. The Highland Society has played an active role in the education of many students in the Miramichi area for a number of years by providing such things as scholarships, communication and mobility devices. School District 16 would like to thank the Highland Society for their generous donation. Shown in the photo are Bill Donald and John McKay of the Miramichi Highland Society, Dawn MacDonald of Ian Baillie School and Bill McGinn and Colleen Wilt of the D16 Student Services team.
