Twenty District 16 educators met after school on Wednesday December 1st to learn about the professional value of the “micro-blogging” medium Twitter. The session led by District 16 technology mentors Joey Savoy and Craig Duplessie emphasized how the social networking site is very useful for following current ideas and resources being made public by leading educators from around the world. In addition the networking allows users to find resources recommended by colleagues and share their ideas. The compact nature of the 140 character posts makes for efficient communication with in-depth material being available on websites linked to a Tweet, the name given for a message posted on Twitter. Although there is a bewildering amount of information being shared by Twitter users, there are search mechanisms that efficiently sort out material of interest to individual users who can choose the Tweets they wish to follow.
