Hundreds of District 16 school children will be able to share in the excitement of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics on November 27th as the Olympic Torch Relay passes through the City of Miramichi. A ceremony will take place at the James M Hill High School track involving a warm welcome for the torch, official comments from public figures and several cultural performances. Preceding the ceremony the event sponsors, the Royal Bank of Canada and Coke, will have Olympics related interactive displays set up on the soccer field for students that will be bussed to the event by District 16 as well as for members of the general public.The torch itself will be leaving Fredericton early that Friday morning reaching the Anderson Bridge where it will be carried along the Miramichi River to Newcastle Miramichi. After passing through this western portion of the city the torch will travel by van to Chatham Miramichi and then be carried through the streets to the official ceremony at James. M. Hill High School, scheduled to arrive at 11:20 a.m. The identity of the bearer to carry the torch into the ceremony is a closely guarded secret, having been selected by the local organizing committee for the event.Following the ceremony the torch will travel by bearers to the crest of Centennial Bridge for an official photograph opportunity before continuing on to the Acadian Peninsula.
