Orange Shirt Day Commemorated Throughout ASD-N

Posted: October 4, 2017

On Friday, September 29th Anglophone North School District celebrated and commemorated Survivors of the Indian Residential School system and those who did not make it home. A "BIG" thank you goes out to all those who worked hard across the district to make this day such a success! The district was a sea of orange and many activities took place leading up to the day and on the day of September 29th. The accompanying picture shows the Miramichi Education Centre Staff who showed their support by wearing orange. You can see more of the amazing work that happened by using the hashtag #ASDNOrangeShirtDay as well as checking out school websites and our own First Nation webpage which can be found under "Quick Links" on the ASD-N homepage entitled "First Nation Education".

You may wonder why we “celebrate” as well as “commemorate” this day; it is for the simple fact that Indigenous Peoples in Canada still maintain their vibrant traditions, cultures and languages in spite of the assimilation policy of Indian Residential Schools.
