The children of Croft Elementary School recently received a visit from Olympic Snowboard hopeful, Alexandra Duckworth, of Nova Scotia. The enthusiastic youngsters were able to ask the visitor about what it takes to become an Olympic level athlete, her experiences and her hopes for the future. After viewing two short videos that included thrilling footage of snowboarding, the Croft students had class photos with the athelete and an Olympic Relay torch, taken in front of a map of Canada illustrating the path of the relay, which incidentally, passes through Miramichi next week on its way to Vancouver.
Ms Duckworth is a participant in the RBC Olympians program which supports a number of athletes across Canada. The accomplished national level athlete is in the final stages of preparation for the 2010 Olympics, hoping to be chosen to the Canadian team in January. Accompanying her on this visit was RBC representative Mr. Kevin Crowder, who expressed great appreciation to District 16 officials for their support and efforts in organizing the upcoming local Olympic Torch event November 27th.
