Anglophone North School District is set to begin beta testing a snow day notification app. The Snow Day Notifier App was created by Alex Leslie, a grade 12 student from Miramichi Valley High School. Students, parents, and teachers who download the app will receive notifications when Anglophone North Schools are canceled due to weather-related events.
Alex came up with the idea for the app last year when he found that he would have a hard time getting back to sleep after checking the ASD-N website and finding out that his school was closed. He wanted to come up with an app that would make it easier and quicker for students and parents to find out if a school was closed due to weather. Alex began working on the idea for the app last year while in grade 11 and was encouraged by his teacher, Ashley Hallihan, to submit the idea to the Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge. He won the award for the best pitch at the provincial gala event in Moncton.
The app is currently available for iOS devices and can be downloaded from the App Store:

An Android version of the app is in development and will be available soon
