Bob Gillis, District 16 Technology Consultant, was honoured Saturday evening in Fredericton by being presented with the Minister’s Excellence in Teaching Award by Education Minister Jody Carr. He was one of nine teachers who were selected from each of the Anglophone districts as very worthy recipients of this award.  Five teachers from each of the Francophone districts were honored in a similar manner on November 5th.       In introducing Bob to the assembled guests, District Education Council Chair, Patricia Lee, noted that “Bob is the driving force behind students who face a multitude of challenges that do not allow them to achieve success within the ‘normal’ school setting.”     Patricia added, “Bob provides students with an alternate education program by means of PLATO. He ensures students have the support they need, such as a computer and Internet connection, and he regularly visits students to monitor their progress.”     She concluded by saying, “Bob has been a benefactor, counselor, mentor, teacher and friend to many students. A significant number of District 16 students owe their graduation to Bob’s passion for keeping them connected to their studies”.
