Students Reflect On What Reconciliation Means To Them

Posted: September 28, 2021

As ASD-N observes Truth and Reconciliation Week, we continue to share some of the happenings in our schools.

Students at Bonar Law Memorial School are spending Truth and Reconciliation Week learning about reconciliation and reflecting on what it means to them. In class, students are viewing a selection of videos and having thoughtful discussions with their teachers. Each day, a new video is presented and the students have a chance to build on the previous day’s ideas. As the week goes on, students will be invited to share what reconciliation means to them in a display in a central area of the school.

The Every Child Matters sign and the response cards were provided by an ASD-N partnership with MAWIW Council Inc., and mirror displays will be showcased in Queen Elizabeth Park in Newcastle on Thursday, September 30th at the first annual Unity March. The Unity March will be livestreamed starting at 10:45 am and classrooms across ASD-N are encouraged to tune in at https://vimeo.com/event/1298561/embed .

Members of the public are welcome to attend the event – don’t forget your orange shirt!

Thank you to the ASD-N First Nations Education Team for sharing these important updates.
