A group of St. Andrews School students had an experience recently that they are likely to remember for a very long time. They were invited to the home of Matilda Murdoch’s son Owen, for a “kitchen party “. Miramichi fiddler and Order of Canada recipient, Matilda, was there to share her music and stories with the youngsters. They were keen to share their music with her and ask questions of the long time Loggieville resident and accomplished musician. Mrs. Murdoch told the children of her early days learning to play the fiddle and about some of her compositions which she performed for them. In turn Kate Estabrooks, a grade 5 student, sang The Kelligrews Soiree and Matilda’s compositon The Lament of the Looshtok. Shannon Bowes, a grade 4 student, played Little Brown Jug on the Melody Bells, Zachary Perron, a grade 4 student, performed, My Grandfathers Clock on the tin whistle.Jack Wilson, a grade one student, sang Bartibogue and the Mickey Mouse March. Matilda and others present seemed totally delighted with the performances. District 16 tech. team members, Craig Duplessie and Jamie O’Toole worked side by side with Dreyden Young and Evan Caroll, two grade four students, to video tape this special afternoon. “Having Tea with Matilda”will be shown on May 7 at Saint Andrew's Music Monday celebration.
