Students at Jacquet River School had a unique geography experience recently. At the school each month of the year is designated for a special focus and January was Social Studies Month. A multi-grade activity was designed for grades 3 to 8 that incorporated familiarization with the Global Positioning System (GPS), team work and the map of Canada. Students in groups used hand-held GPS devices to locate geo-cache containers in the neighbourhood of their school. Each container held an outline map of each of the ten provinces and three territories which when combined at the completion of the activity helped the students to better understand their country’s geography.
