Looking at Life in a Marsh

Posted: May 24, 2013

The wet weather over recent days didn’t dampen the spirits of many elementary school students in the Miramichi area. In fact, it could be said … it was,  “like water off a duck’s back!”. With the support of Ducks Unlimited™  interpreters, Emily and Kristen, students got to hear about and explore the biodiversity of wetlands, the birds that might make wetlands their habitat, about the life on and below the water’s surface and about bird migration. The approximately 90 minute “hands on” lessons, that included a variety of activities, were conducted at Miramichi Marsh, adjacent to Retirement Miramichi™ , in the eastern end of the city. Ponds and walking trails were created on this wetland in 2006 with the support of Ducks Unlimited™ and since then has naturalized to provide a habitat for a diversity of living things, most notable being a wide variety of birds. Schools that participated in this program this year were Croft, Gretna Green, North and South Esk and St. Andrews Elementary Schools. For photos visit Wonders of a Wetland .
