Two hundred girls in grades 6 to 9 were able to enjoy the Go Girl Festival at Miramichi Valley High School on Wednesday May 29th. The participants from schools in the southern area of ASD-N as well as three First Nation schools, enjoyed a wide variety of activities provided by teachers and community volunteers, most of which took place outdoors under pleasantly warm late spring sunshine. The purpose of the event was to encourage girls in this age group to enjoy physical activity and to adopt an active lifestyle as studies show physical activity rates decline when girls reach middle school age. A nutritious lunch and snack were provided to highlight the importance of nutrition as part of that healthy lifestyle. Activities included Yoga, geo-caching., aqua-fitness, tennis, learning to run, rugby, climbing, Ultimate Frisbee, soccer, swimming and a variety of directed fitness workouts. The event was sponsored by a number of community organizations. For more details see the event brochure attached below. For photos from the festival visit Go Girl Festival 2013 .
