ASD-N Innovation Grants: Light & Space

Posted: January 29, 2024

On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will pass through New Brunswick, Canada. Miramichi will experience 100% totality. This is the first time since the year 932 that New Brunswick has experienced this.

As part of this historic event, Brilliant Labs will be hosting its Innovation Fair on April 4th, 2024 at the French Fort Cove Eco Centre. A large area of the French Fort Cove Eco Centre will be a Dark Room where the lights will be turned off and will feature light-based exhibits.

With the support of Brilliant Labs, ASD-N is offering teachers and students the opportunity to apply for an ASD-N Innovation Grant to create STEAM exhibits around the theme of light and space. There will be two categories of grants that teachers can apply for: Dark Room Displays or Light Up Installations (See grant applications below).

The total funding amount for these grants is limited so get your application in ASAP. The application deadline is February 16th, 2024 (or when funds have been depleted). Applications will be evaluated as they are submitted, and teachers will be notified ASAP.

Teachers who are successful grant applicants will be invited to the Innovation Fair to exhibit their Dark Room Display or Light Up Installation. A maximum of 5 students per exhibit will also be invited to the Innovation Fair.

The Light Up Installation category provides a platform for more immersive and three-dimensional projects. Participants in this category have the opportunity to create larger and more elaborate displays, occupying approximately 10 feet by 10 feet of space. Installations can incorporate various materials, technologies, and interactive elements to bring the light and space theme to life. This category encourages a hands-on and experiential approach, allowing visitors to engage with the installations in a more dynamic way.

Grant amount: Up to $1000
