Thirty ASD-N high school students are leaving this weekend to observe Remembrance Day in a very special manner. They will be conducting their own ceremony at the Holten Canadian War Cemetery in Holland. They have made this commemorative event very, very personal. Over the past months each student was assigned a fallen North Shore Regiment (NSR) soldier buried at the cemetery and created a eulogy which will read at the graveside in both English and Dutch. The students from Bathurst, Miramichi Valley and James M.
This week schools throughout ASD-N are recognizing Remembrance Day , Monday November 11,with ceremonies at assemblies that include the students reciting poems, singing songs and reading speeches to remember those who sacrificed so much for Canada over the past 100 years. Wreaths will be laid at the foot of white crosses as invited armed forces veterans look on and helping students appreciate the significance of never forgetting. November 18th to 22nd is Anti-Bullying Week in the province of New Brunswick and in the rest of Canada. Throughout the week, ASD-N schools will be providing students with information and having classroom discussions and lessons around the topic of bullying. Each day of the week has a different theme. Monday is Healthy Relationships, Tuesday is Internet Safety, Wednesday is National Child’s Day, Thursday is Celebrating Diversity and Friday is Wave Day! Solidarity, Kindness, Empathy, Pay it Forward. “Together Let’s Take a Stand Against Bullying!” .
On November 5th ASD-N was host to five educators from Preston Middle School, Fort Collins, Colorado. The visiting teachers had the opportunity to visit Gretna Green Elementary School, Miramichi Rural School and James M. Hill High School. The purpose of their visit was to become familiar with the approaches some of our district schools are taking towards learning in the 21st Century.

Physical Activity GuidelinesThe Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines recommend that children and youth (5-17 years) should do at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily. This should include:1. Intense activities at least 3 days per week (ex. running, basketball, soccer)2. Activities that strengthen muscle and bone at least 3 days per week.(ex. climbing and swinging on playground equipment, running, walking, jumping rope) The more you do, the better your health will be!It is recommended that you limit the time spent being inactive each day.
On October 18 North and South Esk Regional High School held a Mi’kmaq traditional feast organized by the school’s Native Education Advisory Team. Staff and students were able to sample salmon, moose meat stew, fiddleheads, berries, luskinikin (bannok), konesew'ey (potatoes, onions and salt pork). Guest speakers for the event were historian and folklorist Gilbert Sewell, a well regarded Mi’kmaq elder from Pabineau FN along with his daughter, Cynthia. With drums, songs, and stories Mi’kmaq history and culture were shared with those attending.
Once again a generous financial contribution has been received by Anglophone North School District (ANSD) from the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists New Brunswick (APEGNB), the Chatham Rotary Club, and the Historic Chatham Business District (HCBD). Two thousand five hundred dollars has been given towards the school district’s breakfast program. A significant portion of the funds was raised by the Pumpkin Fling Community Event held on Waterford Green earlier this fall.
