Jacquet River School (JRS) is one of several ASD-N schools presently holding its second annual “Spring Cleaning with Meaning” clothing drive in partnership with the New-Brunswick Association of Community Living (NBACL). This campaign helps bring awareness of the support provided by this agency for people with intellectual disabilities in the region and at the same time supports JRS and the other Anglophone North School District locations participating, which include Tide Head School, Janeville Elementary and the Bathurst Education Center on Munro Street. How does it work?
The French Immersion registration deadline has been
extended to Thursday, April 9th. Please visit your local elementary
school for a registration form.
Last spring students at Lord Beaverbrook School (LBS) launched a community wide literacy initiative, when they became the stewards of the Little Free Library, Charter # 15809. LBS’s Little Free Library is a special “book-house” as it belongs to everyone and anyone may use it; it is a community resource and a way for students to give back to their neighbors. When the Little Library project was launched last spring, an article on the ASD-N’s website caught Anna Carpentier-Beauline attention. Ms.
Chess is
alive and well in ASD-N! Thirty-five students from K-8 participated in the
Miramichi Area Chess Tournament on Saturday, March 28th, 2015, hosted
by Rexton Elementary School. Medals were
awarded to the top three finishers at each level, and the top two finishers at
each level are moving on to the provincial tournament in April. Congratulations to all! The results are

The second ASD-N Science,
Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Fair was hosted on March 25th
by James M. Hill Memorial High School in Miramichi. This fair, participated in by Middle School students, was held for schools in the southern region of ASD-N
and followed the first district STEM Fair held in Bathurst
earlier in the month.
Participants, while waiting their
turn to present their work to the judges, took part in “break-out” sessions
involving robotics and coding, structural engineering and physics.

Skills
Canada NB will be hosting their annual provincial competitions for high school
students again this spring. The gold medalists from the interactive
competitions will be invited to be part of Team New Brunswick which will
participate at the 21st Annual Skills Canada National Competition in Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan later this spring. See the attachment below with dates and locations for competitions in

Last year over 500 large bags of
clothing items were donated by community

Îles de la
Madeleine Nautical Camp and Sea kayaking Camp for French Immersion
Students – July 12-18, 2015
L’Istorlet Centre Nautique is a wonderful
facility located on the southern side of the island of Havre-Aubert, Îles
de-la-Madeleine, Quebec. The six- day residential camps for Immersion students
ages 12-14 and 15 to 17 years, will provide a full schedule of exciting
activities featuring; sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, windsurfing, bird and seal
