The first ASD-N non-fiction read aloud challenge, which ran from mid-October to mid-November, appears to have been a huge success. 37 entries were turned in and the response from teachers and leads is that students loved reading and discussing the non-fiction stories. All winning classrooms won a pack of non-fiction books for their classrooms.

Nelson Rural School has been named one of the top 10 finalists in the 2017 CBC Canadian Music Class Challenge. The Nelson Rural entry of the Joni Mitchell classic “Both Sides Now” was selected from over 140 entries across Canada in the Elementary School Vocal category. Led by music teacher Mary O’Neill-Delano, the submission includes all students from the Grade 4 and 5 classes in Nelson.
The Summer French Program is a four-week French second language program administered by the Université de Moncton, Moncton campus. Grades 9 and 10 students enrolled in French Immersion or Post-Intensive French are encouraged to apply. The program will run from July 1st to July 27th 2018.
Everyone (all ages) is welcome to attend at the Dalhousie Inch Arran Arena on December 10th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Admission is free and we will be serving hot chocolate and cake. There will also be great door prizes to be won! Please join us on this day to celebrate together as a community. Spread the word to all you know in any way you can.
On Thursday, November 23rd, Lord Beaverbrook School (LBS) held their 6th annual food drive for the Restigouche County Volunteer Action Association (RCVAA).
On November 18th, two educators from Anglophone North School District were among twelve educators to be presented with a Minister’s Excellence in Education Award at the Crowne Plaza in Fredericton, NB.
On November 20th 2017, all Kindergarten teachers participated in bringing joy and purposeful play to our classrooms. Kimberly Stewart and Dr. Sherry Rose shared igniting opportunities for reinforcing the tremendous value of children’s play. Children are designed to play! Play helps develop social skills, memory, emotional awareness, and creative problem - solving. Play isn’t a luxury! It’s a Necessity!
As adults and children, play has an essential role in fueling our happiness and intelligence throughout our lives and it is essential to our health as sleep and food. Let’s Play!

“Making the Choice” parent information meetings for French Second Language Programs will be offered throughout Anglophone North School District from November 29th-December 13th. Please see the attachment for more information and details.
The rollout of STEM Bins has been completed in ASD-N and an exciting new competition has been launched. K-1 classes from around the district are invited to participate in monthly STEM challenges in their classrooms and compete for prizes. Teachers are asked to share pictures and videos of their students completing the challenge and their names will be entered into a draw for a prize. These challenges will be sent out via e-mail each month.
