A number of ASD-N schools have participated recently in the GREAT BIG CRUNCH. March is Nutrition Month organized by the Dieticians of Canada, and to mark the occasion school-wide apple eating events with students crunching into apples emphasises the importance of natural unprocessed foods being an important part of everyone’s diet.  Ian Baillie Primary School in Miramichi invited ASD-N School Superintendent Beth Stymiest to their event which they held in conjunction with previously postponed Pink Shirt Day. The first of three ASD-N Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Fairs was held on Wednesday last at Superior Middle School in Bathurst. Thirty participants from Campbellton Middle School, Dalhousie Middle School, Jacquet River School and Superior Middle School displayed very well prepared projects for judging and seemed delighted and proud to explain their work that represented a diversity of interests. Schools across ASD-N last week recognized Pink Shirt Day.  The purpose of the day is to help establish awareness about the harm of bullying and to finding means to educate students on how to work towards a bully-free school.  Typically the day is organized by students themselves and it uses a peer to peer  approach.  Here are some links to photos of activities in several ASD-N schools.  Bathurst High School,  Saint Andrews Elementary, Dr. Losier Middle School and  Miramichi Valley High School.

Campbellton Middle School (CMS) wrapped up their annual Cans for Kindness Food Drive last week. Students collected over 1175 items (approx. $1100) for community members in need. For a number of years, CMS has been collecting non-perishable food items, but recently they have expanded by adding personal hygiene products (such as toothpaste, soap, deodorant, toothbrushes), to their drive.
