Middle School students from
across ASD-N participated in the River Valley Regional Science Fair at UNB in Fredericton
on April 17th, and did very well.
Hannah Young of Superior Middle School in Bathurst was the Grand Award
Winner in the Junior Division. Her project was titled “Neutralize Your Thinking”
. Hannah will be participating along with 8
other New Brunswick students in the Canada-wide Science Fair being held this year in

March, was just the start for Mrs. Hache’s grade 2 class at Ian Bailie Primary School in Miramichi. The idea of Nutrition Month is of course intended to encourage healthy food choices all year long. Below is an example of just how such a promotion can take effect. “On April 14th, Mrs. Hache’s grade 2 class had a special ‘picnic’ in class. For the month of March, the students learned about healthy eating as part of Nutrition Month and social studies “You and Your World”. The term ‘picnic’ for eating healthy snacks of fruit and vegetables came from Mrs.

Terry Fox Elementary School (TFES) in Bathurst has created an Artist-in-Residence
program for school year 2015-2016. The program, announced at a school assembly marking
World
Art Day on Wednesday April 15th
by PSSC Chair Mr. Jason Jessop, was received
with great excitement. The artist for the
coming school year, Hatem Aly , a Egyptian born Bathurst resident, was introduced and he put on a display of his
talent drawing a series of cartoons based on suggestions from the enthusiastic members
of the audience. Following the assembly
Students at Harkins Middle School, Miramichi, were
treated to a play performed by a cast of professional Theatre New Brunswick
Young Company First Nation actors called “The Eighth Fire”, on Wednesday April 8th. Joining them in the school’s gymnasium to watch the
presentation was New Brunswick’s Lieutenant Governor the Honourable Jocelyne
Roy-Vienneau
and her
husband, His Honour, Mr. Ronald Vienneau. The play
dealt with the conflict experienced by many First Nation youth between their modern
lifestyles and their traditional culture. The performance was well received by
Fourteen ASD-N elementary schools participated in the district’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fair on April 8th, held at Gretna Green Elementary School in Miramichi. The participants presented their projects to members of the judging team who provided feedback and asked questions, helping the young researchers defend their work and perhaps consider related avenues for further exploration. Eighty-two projects were displayed involving more than 100 students from schools in Rexton, the Miramichi area and Janeville.
Members of the public are invited to attend this event which will be held at Jacquet River School on Monday, April 20th at 6:30 pm. Come and support the students who will be vying for top honors and the opportunity to compete in the provincial French Oratorical Competition in May.
