“Bearly” believable                   A group of 16 young Colombian girls and their host families visited the Little, Big Bear Safari in Acadieville on Sunday and couldn’t believe their eyes – 18 wild black bears!             Richard and Vivianne Goguen have been sharing their love of bears and offering an opportunity to visit the wild animals in their natural habitat, since 1999.

A special international Thanksgiving dinner was held at the Rodd Miramichi River Hotel for 16 Colombian girls, their chaperones, host families and school principals on Monday, through the generosity of one local doctor.       Dr. Sanjay Siddhartha, originally from India, sponsored the event and was praised by Anglophone School District North officials and Tourism Minister Bill Fraser for extending his hand of kindness to the international guests.

Due to construction delays with the renovation project at Gretna Green Elementary School, the planned opening day for students on Tuesday, September 8th has been moved to Wednesday, September 9th.    The staggered entry for new Kindergarten students is also delayed. Students who were to start on Tuesday, September 8th will now start on Wednesday, September 9th, and students who were ‎supposed to start on Wednesday, September 9th will now start on Thursday, September 10th.

Once again, for the 13th year running,  the Miramichi Council of the BellAliant Pioneers and Staples in Miramichi have made a generous donation of school supplies to students in the Miramichi, Harcourt and Rexton areas of Anglophone North School District through their “Backpacks for Kids” program. Along with BellAliant and partner Staples-Miramichi and their customers, 170 book bags stuffed with classroom materials have been prepared for children in elementary school and were delivered to district representatives this past Tuesday.

The 2015 "Go for 42" Fun Run was held on Sunday, June 28th with elementary schools in the Miramichi area participating. Gretna Green Elementary had the largest proportion of participants, followed by St. Andrews and Croft Elementary, Carrefour Beausoleil. To see photos from the even visit Go for 42 2015 .
